Why I No Longer Attend Church
My spiritual life looks completely different than it used to.
My husband and I would get up every Sunday morning, get to church early, and serve in our respective areas. We would spend time with friends and plan for our group that we led every week. It’s something I’ve done for the past 30 or so years.
Expressing my Christian faith through church activities and relationships brought fulfillment to both of us and a sense of belonging.
But then things changed.
We left the last church that we really loved because of changes that we weren’t crazy about. Looking back, we should have handled it differently. We thought we wanted something new, but we really needed a break. We never found another church with the same connectedness.
Also, I worked for a television ministry during the week and had enough of organized religion. I needed space on the weekend. Not to mention, my weekends were often taken up with ministry work because of my social media position, especially if we had an event taking place.
As 2020 rolled around, I was heading for burnout.
Between the impending election and the pandemic, my world at work became increasingly busy. The ministry I worked for, while always on the edge, became increasingly more fringe. The founder was part of…
