How To Use Data Science For Social Impact

Data science is truly an interdisciplinary field.

Mathematicians, statisticians, computer scientists, social scientists, database administrators, data engineers, graphic designers, UI experts, journalists, storytellers, researchers, and business administrators are among many individuals involved in the process.

As machine learning and AI continue to advance, philosophers and ethicists will hopefully be included in the process as well.

Data science is powerful. If used correctly, it grants access to:

  1. The ability to understand the world in an objective way.
  2. The ability to utilize this understanding to create progress.

Utilizing Data comes in many forms. Netflix uses data science to recommend movies and tv shows to customers. Facebook uses data science to create targeted advertisements. Google uses data science to optimize search results. Amazon uses data science to have conversations with Alexa. Microsoft uses data science…
