April Showers and the Seasons of Relationships

April showers bring May flowers — or so the saying goes. This year, many parts of the United States are experiencing an unusual amount of rain, historic even. My hometown of Cincinnati, for instance, received eight or nine inches in just a couple of days. The result? Widespread flooding and a difficult weekend for many residents. Yet other parts of the country, like Arizona, yearn for the rain.

As I viewed news stories and photos from friends of the floods, I couldn’t help but think about the way storms — both literal and metaphorical — impact our lives. Just like in nature, relationships often endure their own kinds of weather. There are bright, sunny days of joy and connection, and then there are stormy seasons of relationships with conflict, uncertainty, or grief.

Still, something beautiful often follows. Flowers bloom. Bonds deepen. We learn from each season and challenge.
