An Accidental Art Opening
A last-minute invitation turns into a fantastic first
“Would you like to show your paintings next week?”
The inquiry came as quite a surprise to my beloved, Marine Dalmasso. Apparently, one of the artists had dropped out from the show at L’Orbite “”, and they were keen for her to provide two pieces, sight unseen.
This was a big step outside of Marine’s comfort zone, and had the potential to be a defining moment in her artistic endeavors. She has loved painting since childhood, but had yet to display any of her pieces publicly. Only very recently has she begun sharing snippets of her creative process online via her , and as most artists experience with their first shows (myself included) there was a palpable fear in her eyes mixed with tremendous excitement at her debut into the public eye.
Every step was new; from the framing to the pricing to the shmoozing with other artists and the potential buyers. I sat in stunned awe watching her move through things that I’ve been deliberating for years with my photography, seemingly as easily as a knife through butter. She had almost no back-and-forth on pricing. She found a price she felt was fair, and stuck to it… I’m still deliberating that to this day!
