A Year of Reading: Reviewed & Revised for 2025

2024 was the year I found my taste, 2025 is the year I satiate it

Like many people, I rediscovered my love for reading during the pandemic. With the ink still wet on my English degree, it had been years since I read anything for pleasure. Stuck at home with no job or school to fill the hours of the day, I turned to the literary world for a much-needed escape.

Reading has reinstated itself as a mainstay hobby of mine over these last few years. Many of the books I’ve chosen to pick up are influenced by the bookish content I watch on YouTube, with plenty of hits and misses along the way.

Each year, I try to stretch the boundaries of my reading preferences, extending into different genres and writing styles. 2024 was no different, except that I tracked all my reads and wrote detailed reviews in my journal. By creating a dialogue with myself, I was able to better develop my literary tastebuds, making me excited for all the reading that’s to come in 2025.

A closer look at my 2024 reads

In total, I read 46 books last year, which is on par with my average of four books per month. That being said, I don’t read that consistently. Instead, I’ll breeze through six books…
