There are many techniques for creating the illusion of movement in objects, characters or environments within animation. Each one has its own characteristics, advantages, disadvantages, materials, applications and visual aesthetics.

In the traditional paper drawing technique, each frame of the animation is hand-drawn on paper using pencils, markers, or any other drawing material. Once all the necessary frames have been generated, they can be scanned and digitally edited to add color and special effects. This technique is one of the oldest and has been used in many animation classics.

The paper drawing technique can also be transferred to acetate, which is a transparent material that allows drawings to be superimposed to create the illusion of movement as well as depth. Each drawing is placed on a bar with holes to avoid errors in movement and filmed frame by frame to create the final animation. This technique is known as traditional animation and is still used in some animated productions.
