The Body Connection
Where do you spend most of your energy — body, mind, heart, or spirit?
In which dimension of yourself do you spend the most time and energy — physical, spiritual, emotional, or mental?
Until a couple of years ago, I would have answered most of my daily energy is spent mentally. As a book editor, once I drop the kids off at school, I have a stretch of 8 hours where I may not say a single word. Obviously this isn’t always the case, as I have authors I meet with on Zoom and friends I meet for lunch. But my interests largely fall in the category of “living in my head.”
I know others who are motivated by feelings and move from one emotional event to another. They feel things deeply and want to unpack their feelings with friends or family. Still others use their emotions to get in touch with their spiritual side, longing for something deeper and using their emotions to inspire their prayers.
No matter which area you gravitate to most, there’s a danger when we put too much emphasis on any one aspect our our whole selves: body, mind, heart, or spirit. We were made to live out of each of these dimensions, but life is busy and we are easily distracted. When left unchecked, we may find the imbalance of these four aspects leads…
