First Ontario, Then the World
Do the Toronto Maple Leafs actually have a shot at the Stanley Cup this year?
Years ago, I lost hope for our home team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, to win the Stanley Cup. It has been since 1967 — almost six decades — since an NHL player in a Leafs jersey has hoisted Stanley in victory. Those game photos are mostly in black-and-white.
The Leafs keep promising to do better each year, then bow out early in the playoffs to beat the crowds at the golf course. Watching them mysteriously fade from their regular season shine has become unbearable to me.
Last night, the Leafs went up two games to zero in the battle against the Ottawa Senators, our provincial rivals. I didn’t watch the game, as I was out riding my bike and taking in the beautiful golden hour sun. But I admittedly peeked at the a few times to check the score.
It has been since the Leafs last faced the Senators in the playoffs. Put it this way: the son of a retired Leafs player, Max Domi, scored the overtime winner for Toronto last night.
Toronto’s odds favourable in Vegas
With a two-game edge, it’s quite probable Toronto will take the series.
