I Talk to Myself, and I Am Not Mad

I just said this to myself: “I am my best friend.”
Perhaps the loneliest thing I have ever said out loud but to me it sounded exhilarating.
Becoming friends with my inner voice
I remember coming across an article when I was younger, which stated that when you read something out loud, your brain tends to register it better, because along with visual links, we are now also making .
That seemed like a good deal to me, and I instantly started parroting paragraphs from my science textbook out loud.
Prior to this, my parents would question me with a persistence that would have put Donkey from Shrek to shame, on whether I was really studying or just pretending to do my homework. This reading out loud strategy of mine managed to effectively shut them up.
Of course, they didn’t need to know that using my voice box was also the only thing preventing me from falling over the side of my bed due to science-induced boredom.
