The Boy Who Made Fun of Me in Middle School
He’s now bald with a belly
Disclaimer: If you’re bald with a belly, this is not a personal attack. Read this story with an open mind and the innocent lens of a 14 year old girl who simply wanted a date for campfire.
Summer camp was my favorite week of the summer. For one full week, I was free from the reign of my mother’s ever watchful eye. I could say whatever I wanted and be whomever I wanted to be; I was free.
In turns out in my freedom, I was also somewhat of a spitfire. I spoke my mind freely and became quite the socialite.
Each day’s events included a recreation hour right followed by an evening campfire.
This days’ particular recreation was Walk-A-Mile, an event that required boys on one side of the line and girls on the other side of the line. Each boy and girl were paired up and walked side by side until a “runner” came and told them to switch spots with another person in their line. It was the best event ever in my 14 year old minds’ eye.
This evening, a boy from my hometown was paired with me. And much to my surprise, he asked me to sit beside him at the campfire.
I looked at him in earnest and responded with lump in my throat,
