I’m Experimenting With The Devil
I’ve tried different AI chatbots, and it’s mostly just bad
And before we start, oops I should say before I start — despite the use of an ellipse — NO chatbot was used in any part of this post. I’ve tried OpenAI, Gemini, and Copilot and it didn’t take much to learn that none of them are of much use to a serious writer as they exist. I know, perhaps I’m not the serious writer everyone thinks I am.
But then I thought of a Canadian author-poet who used an early LLM [language learning module] to build a database of her work, a months-long project about her poetry. At the end of the project, using her own writing, the LLM was able to produce poetry that resembled her own poetic voice. She danced with the devil so-to-speak, and survived to talk about her dance with a group of poets and writers wherein I was a member.
It got me thinking. Could I teach-train an AI model to use my voice? Could I more effectively engage with AI to arrive a a better “planning” outline for my writing?
As those here who know me somewhat, I am a pantser and have difficulty, even resistance when it comes to planning-plotting out a story. For me, it is all about the MUSE, about following my intuition.
