I Was Attacked by Giant Crows in Tokyo, Japan
Yes, there are giant crows in Japan
In 2015, I lived in Tokyo, Japan for 2 months during the Summer after graduating college. I had traveled there for an internship and it was a great opportunity to immerse myself in the culture.
I stayed with locals in the Nishi-Waseda district of Shinjuku. If you’re unfamiliar with the city topography of Tokyo, it’s divided into 23 city wards, Shinjuku being one of them.
Typically, when people visualize Tokyo, they think of Shibuya, which is like the Japanese version of Midtown Manhattan. However, some of the city wards, while still very urban, are not nearly as commercialized. This is what Shinjuku is like.
The walk to the subway station in Shinjuku was about 10–15 minutes from where I lived. My typical weekday routine while living in Japan was to take the subway from Shinjuku to the outer area of Shibuya which is where my internship was located. The outer area of Shibuya is not nearly as dense and busy as the inner portion, but it’s still very metropolitan.
So what does any of this have to do with crows? Well, nothing yet, but I wanted to set the scene a bit.
Now, enter the giant crows.
