Becoming a Grumpy Old Man is Some Bullshit
When Did I Get the Gout and Start to Love Birdwatching?
Y’all… I’m feeling it today.
Gratitude? Fuck no. Pain. From a friggin’ nature walk. Sure, it was a three-mile trek, but I don’t think that I should be in pain from walking in a nature preserve, taking photos of birds.
When the hell did I start giving a damn about birds, anyway? A sudden wildlife epiphany out of nowhere. It’s like I turned 50 this past October, and suddenly, I was aware of the existence of birds for the first time. It’s Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom up in this bitch, lately.
“So THAT’S what’s been making all of those goddamn chirping noises I’ve been hearing in the background for half a century.”
Regardless of how I got to this point, I’m here. No sense in fighting it. Buying my Nikon P1000 camera at the end of 2023 sealed my fate. That thing can zoom in on a wolf dropping a deuce, and you can see the corn in it. I love getting out in nature and photographing animals these days.
But damn, that box of mine is heavy. As I started on The Grey Mile adventure yesterday, I noticed a pain in my neck. Nothing serious, but I felt annoyed by it. Maybe I shouldn’t be wearing it with the strap.
