What is the Point of Praying?

I used to believe that the reason we pray to God is for the fulfillment of our desires.

To request and ask away everything and anything that we wish to have in our lives.

And even though it works, I now understand, that it is neither the only nor the best reason to pray.

Praying, when done right and with the right intentions gives us something way more profound and useful than simply our demands being met and desires being fulfilled.

It gives us wisdom.

The wisdom to do the right thing. The knowledge to navigate the currents of life.

As a kid, when I used to seek blessings from my Mother by touching her feet, she would always say — “Bhagwan sadbuddhi de” (May God give you wisdom.)

It used to annoy me. I wondered why would she not give me the blessings to get what I want, or be always victorious?

I understand now, that wisdom enables all other things in Life. Wisdom becomes a guiding light, a North Star that helps…
