The Inauguration Cocktail: One Part Warm Milk, Two Parts Thorazine

I’m a 57 year old woman, a “birthright” American citizen.

Last Monday, like millions of other Americans, I refused to watch the inauguration as it happened. (Instead, I watched Jon Stewart for the recap). I wasn’t about to sit and watch the formal, stuffy, hypocritical transfer of power which made it seem like what was unfolding was in any way, shape, or form — “normal”.

But I did catch, for sure, a certain billionaire’s Nazi salute. Was I shocked? No. I was enraged. Everyone who sat in that audience, is complicit in what he did. Everyone in power who does not speak out against it — is complicit. He made that salute because he knew he could get away with it. He was only expressing, outwardly, what everyone in that audience was thinking.

I don’t care what the billionaire has to say about what he did. I don’t allow myself to listen to any of his justifications, or otherwise-defenses of what he did or what “others perceive” he did. We all know what he did. He knew what he did. And what’s more, he knew his audience. He felt perfectly comfortable doing what he did.

An immigrant did this. The billionaire shrugs off criticism of his performance by stating that any commentary likening the current Administration to the Third Reich , I reply: No
