“Kilroy was here” is a meme that became popular during , typically seen in graffiti on buildings (the internet wasn’t invented yet). Its origin is debated, but the phrase and the distinctive accompanying doodle became associated with in the 1940s: a bald man (sometimes depicted as having a few hairs) with a prominent nose peeking over a wall with his fingers clutching the wall.
I can remember when I was a child or teenager during the 1960s and 1970s. I sometimes found graffiti on the walls of businesses in and around Houston, TX. I saw Killroy frequently. I had to ask an adult what that character meant.
