How to Integrate Exercise into Your Life (Even If You’re Lazy)
It can be rather difficult to develop a regular exercise routine, particularly if your natural tendency is more to relax than to be active. The good news is that getting exercising doesn’t need you to wake up at five in the morning or become a gym rat. The secret is to incorporate exercise into your everyday routine in a way that is easy to do, fun, and natural. Begin modestly. You don’t have to run a marathon; your body can benefit from a quick ten-minute walk after meals or a few stretches while watching TV. These little actions will eventually add up to a habit that doesn’t feel like a chore.
Making your movement relevant is another powerful strategy. Consider exercise a means to achieve something else rather than a chore — dance while cleaning the house, walk the dog or use the stairs rather than the lift. Movement is everything, and it matters. When on lengthy work calls, think about getting a standing desk or practicing quick stretches. By incorporating exercise into your daily schedule, you can avoid the mental resistance that typically results from setting aside specific time for “workouts.”
