Why I Read 20 Books Per Year

My mother used to read a lot. She read more books than anyone I ever knew but I knew I wasn’t going to follow in her footsteps. I did have a curious fascination with her love of reading. I always thought there must have been something to it.

Then, later in life, I heard the phrase, “If you ever want to keep something from a Black person, put it in a book.” As I looked up this phrase, I see there are many variations of this same phrase. But it was like fuel to my fire. So, someone wants to keep something from me, eh? hmmm. Not gonna happen. But in all honestly, that’s not what really fired-up my reading engine.

I spent several years attending the U.S. Naval War College distance learning program. I enjoyed it so much; I wrote about it and shared those thoughts with you in the below-linked article.
