Israel’s Dichotomy: Is It All About “Us”?
Gaza Shows The Disconnect Between Who We Say Are And The Things We Do
The inhumanity of war reveals to us the capacity we have to embrace evil whilst declaring good intent. So, this article is not just about Israel or Hamas but about all of us, no matter what we believe or our cultural history.
The Wars in Gaza and in Ukraine, and the cruelty that we are seeing from the Trump administration in America, denying medical care and aid to millions, leads me to question the difference, the dichotomy, between our beliefs and our actions and our words.
How indeed we betray ourselves by what we do.
Recently, about Gaza I wrote: “It is antisemitic to normalise the behaviour of the country that bombed a nation almost out of existence, destroying hospitals, kindergartens and targeting men, women and children. It is not Jewish, nor typical of a great religion or its people. It is though an abomination of that people, and those who direct or support it should be disowned by all Jews and all those who value humanity.”
This got me thinking. The principle in the statement can be applied to many peoples. It is definitely not just a Jewish reality, but an actuality that affects all of us regardless of our beliefs or cultural group.
