Here is Some High Altitude Food For Thought
Which parts of the Bible make sense to embrace? Which parts don’t?
It’s complicated.
What about all the words pastors have taught us, maybe embellishing hell and fear a bit here, a smidge there?
Is original sin a damnable offense but for the blood of Jesus? Damnable for everyone? Even the kid in North Korea after a 16-hour workday?
Here’s the thing. I don’t want to believe in an afterlife of living, burning hell. So I don’t. Not for anyone. It’s that simple. I choose not to, despite my religious upbringing. It’s too incredulous to take up head space.
I gave it up for Lent.
If I can reject certain teachings, then traditional Christianity might not be sacrosanct. More beliefs could be tossed out.
If I’m delusional, if I can’t just toss out teachings like wilted lettuce, then I’ll see you in hell. Well, not you. I’ll see those who write in publications like Let’s Blow Christianity Sky High Like the Fourth of July.
What, then, are we to do?
Personally, I had no choice but to risk God zapping me with a lightning bolt when I retrofitted my beliefs, let’s say. My head…
