Love Languages? You’ll Love This Game

As someone who has studied philosophy of language and a bit of linguistics, I was intrigued by , a game that seems to be about language learning and translation. All I was expecting was a cute puzzle game that would give my linguistic muscles a nice little stretch, a great way to kill some time during the spring break.

But I got way more than I bargained for.

This is a game that takes its world-building seriously and does not just use language as a gimmick. Language is absolutely the main character — albeit an elusive one that you have to chase down and earn the right to understand.

Playing it feels like being dropped into a foreign country, unable to read the signs or grasp the speech, yet slowly finding your footing. Once you do that, you realise you are in love with the language that blossomed on your tongue and the powers you now have thanks to it.

What the game allows you to experience is not merely how foreign symbols could correspond to certain words in your language, but how language is so intricately connected to culture, to different ways of being. So, without further ado, I will briefly outline the premise of the game before…
