Climbing the Ladder — Part 1
Some sacrifices must be made to get ahead on Wall Street. I didn’t realize just how strange those sacrifices could be.
It was a strange feeling, sitting down at the desk in our apartment and looking out the window and actually seeing sunlight outside.
I’d gotten home early. Not just for me, but in general, the clock showing five minutes to four.
I’d wrangled reports from the analysts, finished up my own additions, and sent it off to Jeffreys, our managing director. For once, he was satisfied.
More than satisfied. He had the look he gave when I knew it was in the bag, which is to say that he didn’t give a shit as opposed to his usual practice of asking for a million more updates.
Not that I had any idea as to what to do with myself. Normally I’d lean on Camilla, my wife, to figure out our free time as she worked less insane hours than I did. However, she did travel more with her consulting gig and was out of town this evening, leaving me all alone, sitting at my desk and staring blankly at the computer.
At least I’d gotten my shoes, tie, and jacket off. I guess I could call that a win.
