When I Lived in a Commune: Can We Unlock Freedom Through Healing Together?

I’m working in a kitchen, preparing food for about fifty people in a team of five. We’re chopping vegetables, making bread dough, washing up as we go along. Only, it doesn’t feel like work.

My brain is buzzing and my heart feels open and connected.

For nearly two hours, I’ve been immersed in fascinating discussions about astrology and while listening to good music. I have discovered that one of the women on the kitchen team is almost my astrological twin, we have so many similarities in our birth charts.

I go out into the garden on my tea break and sit there in the 6 pm midsummer heat, inhaling the roses. In the background, the stately house; in front of me, a lawn surrounded by well-tended flowers, herbs and shrubs, extending out into a field full of sheep, with hills in the background.

It feels like heaven.

When I get back, the chef, a plain-talking but kind Australian woman, asks me to collect rose petals from the garden to adorn the salad.

When preparing food for myself, this delicate touch would feel like a waste of…
