True Happiness is Inner Peace
Joy comes and goes, inner peace can last
We always look for the high. Getting rich, falling in love, drugs, and alcohol. But we fall off of the ecstasy as quickly as we got on it.
It made me think. Is this what life is about? Looking for one thrill after another? Wait, no, it’s worse. We have to exceed that high constantly. After a Lexus, a Porsche, then a Bently, then we want the Rolls Royce. And we can never revert. Going from a Ferrari back to an Infinity is depressing. Our standards have been raised. And the higher our bars, the fewer things there are to satisfy us. Sounds like a rich man’s problem, not exactly.
This never-ending chase is a result of our perspective, it’s especially true while we’re young. We want the home run instead of steady batting. But you know the problem with home runs? They don’t occur often.
I find myself obsessing the NBA season after season. It’s the same drill. It begins at the same time of the year, ends at the same time of the year. 48 minutes a game. Somebody puts on a dazzling performance, they win. Or they lose. Whatever, I’ve seen it all, over and over again. It’s not as nearly as exciting to me as it used to be, regardless of the novelty they bring to the game. I remain true to it because I find joy in the constant. Knowing that there’s something to…
