From Silence and Space
Finding your self in difficult spaces
This quarantine situation may have you feeling that you need to be productive. That you need to start that book, study your craft more, release new music, begin some new existential life journey — but that’s not the case. From silence and space comes the act of self-reflection. Within that inward reflection, meaning and purpose will come. That meaning could be writing some of the best work of your life. However, it could also mean catching your breath and taking a moment to do nothing.
Your purpose is your own, and that purpose should never be measured to fit someone else’s standards. So while some may go on to create enriching experiences from their muses, others may realize their enrichment lies in binge-watching The Wire for the first time. All of those things matter. All of those things add to our human experience. All of those things expose something different to us and teach us something about ourselves. Maybe we need to push ourselves more. Maybe we need to take more breaks. Maybe we need to listen to others. Maybe we need to speak out so that we are heard.
Whatever your lesson is, be open to learning and realizing that yours will not mirror anyone else’s. While the world outside is quiet, the space you occupy is loud and speaking clearly. Do you hear it?
