About Me — Mai Fanglayan
I’m an actor who found solace, peace, and emotional well-being through writing.
A Cordilleran actor, whose roots are from Bontoc and Sagada, Mountain Province. Born and raised in Baguio City, Philippines, 7th among the seven children of a former mining geological mapper turned jeepney driver dad and a jack-of-all-trades mom.
My childhood days were exposed to reading Disney princesses stories from a large storybook which my mom bargained for 100Php. (A little background, my mom, although she was an elementary graduate and never had the chance to finish school due to poverty, she loves giving us books to read.) Aside from the books, I was exposed to listening to dramas and nighttime stories on the radio, cultivating my imagination and storytelling abilities. Not long after, I found myself writing short stories in school.
I wanted to give Medium a shot and plan to write stories that mainly tackle life, relationships, emotional health, and personal growth. I am also looking forward to connecting with kindred spirits in this community.
I love writing fiction, but as a screenplay for movies, because I’m a sucker for independent films and hope one day, I’ll be writing and directing my screenplay too.
