Why You Need the East to Apply the Bible’s Teachings in the West
The Bible teaches you the what, but meditation teaches you how
Meditation is missing from Christianity — and here’s my take on how they complement each other and why you should adopt meditation as a Christian in your walk with God.
“And lead me not into temptation…”, exclaim millions as we recite the Our Father, a mainstream prayer in the tradition.
The Bible constantly hammers down the point of being in the world and not of the world.
Being of the world means that you are reactive to worldly whim. Subject to temptation, we forget God in a perpetual state of material distraction. All religions warn us of this. Eve sought to be God because the tree satisfied human desire. She forgot that we don’t live to serve ourselves but rather the creator.
The Bible reveals what causes this distraction and when it is instantiated (from birth), and why it is necessary to not give into the world’s temptations but set our minds on the spiritual.
But it doesn’t say how.
This is where mediation comes in.
The Yogi’s and Jesus’ teachings complement each other nicely.
