Politics are Personal
We all have that in common
We are growing more divided than ever. I find myself fluctuating between thinking, “Good, let the Trump-supporting morons get what they asked for,” to “Why do the ones who knew better have to suffer too and work hard to clean up the mess on top of it?”
In the end, this is what we needed. I’m not saying it’s okay or that people who will suffer deserve it. But we got here because there are a multitude of diseases in this country.
Lack of Education.
People have not been adequately educated. We still have less truth in our classrooms than should be there. History is not taught as comprehensively as it should be. Sure, we learn about a few essential things but don’t learn different sides of history. Learning different sides builds critical thinking.
It would also be better for us to understand how policy works thoroughly. We were taught basic government functions in middle school. But did we ever take the time to learn how to find a bill, follow its track, and research what the impacts of that bill passing or not would have on real people? That would be a great high school lesson.
We struggle to be open to learning from one another. Again, I acknowledge that Democrats tend to be better at this than Conservatives, but even within our liberal…
