The Hidden Ocean Inside Earth: A Remarkable Discovery
Our planet is full of secrets, and scientists are always uncovering new ones. Recently, researchers made an astonishing discovery—a vast amount of water hidden deep inside the Earth. This underground water source might be so large that it could change everything we know about our planet.
How Was This Water Discovered?
Scientists found evidence of water trapped about 640 kilometers (400 miles) beneath the Earth’s surface inside a mineral called Ringwoodite. Unlike regular lakes or oceans, this water isn’t in liquid form; instead, it is absorbed within the mineral, much like a sponge holds water.
This discovery was first made in 2014 when researchers studied a rare diamond found in Brazil. Inside the diamond, they found tiny traces of water molecules, proving that enormous amounts of water could be hidden deep within the Earth.
Where Is This Water Located?
The Earth is made up of three main layers:
1. Crust – The outermost layer, where we live.
2. Mantle – The thick layer beneath the crust, made of hot, semi-solid rock.
3. Core – The deepest layer, mostly composed of iron and nickel.
