Why is Everyone Here Giving Tips on Writing?

It may be necessary or probably misleading.

The internet is filled with writing tips. Tips flow from every other self-proclaimed ‘wordsmith’, blogger, and social media influencer like rivers on how to craft that perfect sentence, structure a compelling narrative, or how to get your readers hooked right from the first line. Have you ever stopped to think why all of a sudden everybody has an opinion on writing?

Increasing Writing Guru

Within the last years, the writing community has exploded online. Social media sites such as Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok are flooded with writers sharing their work, experiences, and — you guessed it — writing tips. Similarly, writing advice blogs and YouTube channels have popped out of nowhere; some of the creators gain massive engagements.

But what’s driving this trend? Is it a genuine desire to help aspiring writers improve their craft, or is something else at play?

Perhaps one explanation lies in the modification of publishing: barriers to entry have fallen, and now anyone can publish work online — often without the gatekeeping of agents and editors. This shift has created a power vacuum, with many writers turning to online communities for guidance.
