What am I driving at?
I’m just expressing a few takes or misconceptions about the world
Let me tell you something that they don’t teach us in school: the world runs on relationships, not necessarily ‘talent’. It took me a few years of face—planting through life to figure that out.
Do you remember when we were young, and how older people would say, "Just work hard and you'll succeed"? Yeah, that was only half the story. Of course, hard work counts. But it's bringing a knife to a gunfight if you need help understanding the unwritten rules of how things work.
What I’ve learnt about the real world, often through embarrassing mistakes and awkward moments:
1. Nobody Cares How Smart You Are if you don’t prove it
Myth: A fancy degree and perfect GPA would open doors. Spoiler alert: they didn’t. What opened doors were the random conversations I had with strangers or people in social places, the friend of a friend who remembered me from that one party, and that person I helped out when I didn’t have to.
