Snowed In
Acrostic Sestina
Snow filled my sleep sanctuary last night.
Each numbed toe froze me with tingling terror.
Struggling to slide out of my icy bed,
Touching a floor coated with snow and ice.
I cried out for help; they froze in mid air.
Now, I must melt my fears or death will win.
All survival modes within cheered my win.
Slipping on icy floors to see another night.
Each inch closer to feel some warmer air,
Striving for strength to escape this terror.
Traversing the floor, filled with snow and ice.
Insecurity woos me back to bed.
Not an option; I must find warmer air.
A return to bed will be my death bed.
Strength renewed, striving to end my terror.
Every inch now encourages my win.
Striving to stand and live another night;
Totally failing; I slip on black ice.
I’m stopped cold; I might not live till night.
Now tears stream freezing my cheeks in terror.
