A daily gratitude list of a van lifer

Living in a house on wheels teaches you many things, one of which is a deep appreciation for human inventions.

Those inventions are a part of your daily life and you probably don’t think about them much. But for us, people who live in a biscuit tin, they are precious.

My partner and I survived most of the summer without an air vent aka a window in the van’s ceiling. Very needed daylight and fresh air were a dream during the scorching hot, humid English summer.

We helped ourselves with frozen bags of peas and open doors before falling asleep but nothing beats a hole in the top of the can on wheels.

Getting an air vent was, as you can imagine, a game-changer. Sleeping WITH a window open during the summer?! What a luxury! Waking up without having to wipe the condensation off the windshield? We were in awe for at least a month after installing it.

Let’s face it — having a hot shower is something you expect to have at the end of a long day or a workout.

And if you think about it, it’s a luxury that became normal not that long ago in human…
