Just Look Up

Again we sacrifice the greatest of gifts
Upon the altar of modernity
Precious child given up passively
Unknowingly
O’ how Moloch marvels at his might

Metronomic ticks
Existence parceled tidily into minutes
Hours, Days
Spent carelessly, but mindfully?
How so?

Matters not the misanthropic
Musings of man
Yet we search, futilely, for meaning
As we trod through the mire of malaise
And vapid tripe

Madness is all that comes to mind
Time stalks its prey
Aware but we choose to ignore
Until shocked that the thief has
Pilfered from us

Fearful of missing
Minding matters that matter not
Straining to find the eyes
That would indeed meet ours
If we would just look up
