For the last six months, our home has been caught in an unexpected battle with tiny invaders: Pharaoh ants. The initial notice about the infestation came in September, and back then, we thought the problem would be resolved quickly, maybe with a couple of sprays or traps. Little did we know, things work quite differently here in Germany.
At first, I assumed the solution would involve the usual methods – forceful extermination or chemicals designed to kill the ants. But even after four months of “treatment,” there was no visible change. Frustrated, I decided to speak directly with the “ant hunter,” a pest control professional assigned to deal with the situation.
His explanation left me stunned: the “medicine” they had been using wasn’t designed to kill the ants outright. Instead, it was a type of chemical that prevents the ants from reproducing. My immediate reaction was disbelief. “You mean, you’re not killing them?” I asked. His response was clear: in Germany, even ants are handled ethically.
