Crying Is Not Weakness — Strong Opinion Alert!

Why are you so weak?” That was the response I got after tearing up.

I’ve heard similar comments all over my life when my eyes well up in tears. The happy and cheerful girl should never cry no matter how hard she feels at the moment.

Crying is often seen and taught as a vulnerability. Emotional people like me are especially criticized every time they express their distress in tears.

Labelling people with their emotional behaviour is a stereotype in almost every place in the world. Let me show you a few examples:

  • You express your anger for the right cause. People will leave no chance to trigger you and make you a bad person.
  • You are soft spoken. Then, people will take advantage of your silence to suppress your opinions.
  • You are comfortable with minimal people interaction. Then, people will link your personality with your failed relationships and force you to mingle with the crowd.

Whatever you may be, there will be someone with dislike for your personality. But again, I still wish to address this misconception about crying.
