Joe Douglas: A Football Mind

2 min readNov 19, 2024

Joe Douglas is a rising name in the NFL; he recently exited the New York Jets in the headlines. Before joining the New York Jets, Douglas had important managerial positions with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he contributed greatly to the construction of the Super Bowl LII champions. As a talent-scouting boss, Douglas had signed some important players like Dallas Goedert and Josh Sweat while still in the Eagles.

Douglas received the Jets in 2019 when the team required reconstruction to fit its current structure. One of the important changes that he personally made was trading for star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. However, the 2023 season was not as good as the team’s previous seasons, and Douglas was fired from the Jets. Still, Douglas carries forward to the future as a very Astute talent evaluator whose services are again highly sought by other NFL franchises seeking to build their departments.

Although Douglas’s stay with the Jets was unceremoniously cut short, his contributions to the Eagles and overall contribution to the NFL cannot be doubted. His ability to directly appoint young talent and build his team using a great and stable strategy makes him critical in the league. Further progress will show where the next will take him and how he will help to mold the NFL even more as it advances.
