You’re Doing It for the Wrong Reasons

Pause and Reflect

I’m about to turn 26 in the next three months, and I can’t help but notice that everyone around me is getting married.

“Suppose to be and hopefully the most wonderful event of life.”

But it also makes me pause and reflect — are we all doing it for the right reasons?

Our parents’ generation is proof of what marriage often demanded, particularly from women.

Sacrifice became synonymous with being a good wife. A new life came with expectations so high that their dreams, individuality, and sometimes even basic comfort were secondary.

For a moment, think back to your childhood.

Imagine you were in school, and one day your parents decided you needed to switch to another one — maybe they moved, or the previous school didn’t meet their expectations.

Now, recall the first day at your new school.

Everything was unfamiliar. New classmates. New uniform. New teachers. New playground. New Canteen. Everything.

When the teacher asked you to introduce yourself, it probably felt like the spotlight was burning through you.
