Medium: To Report or Not Report?

Clap and runs, fake profiles, and all that jazz

I’ve been a FOM member since October of this year, but I was a member for quite a while before that. I’ve enjoyed the community and the friendly writers, and I’ve even made a bit of money from the site. While the $14 I’ve made in two months will barely buy a gallon of milk and a box of cereal, it’s been a fun ride.

I wake up in the morning eager to check Medium, see what my stats look like from the day before, and see if I made any money from those reads. My routine is to sign into Medium, grab my coffee, and settle in to read my favorite writer’s posts before heading off to work. Well…

That used to be my routine. In the last week or so, I find myself dreading getting onto Medium every day. Not because of the writers! My favorites are as amazing as ever. However, the amount of clap and runs I see every…single…morning has gotten me down and frankly has me looking at other places to write.

However, it’s not just about the people who clap and run. It’s also about the views and reads that you never see a penny for. As I’ve mentioned in a few posts and comments, I’m not here for the money, but come on!
