Grateful for You
A surprising and graceful conversation
As I sat alone in my bedroom, being thankful for everything in my life, good and not so good, the thought of my latest blood test came to mind. This started an internal conversation with me.
It went something like this:
I am grateful for who you are, this Pati, with all your flaws, failures, and follies. You have taught me so much. Each experience was a blessing, because it led me here, to this moment. I am grateful for all the versions of you, in all the dimensions, space-time, and multiverses. You all, as one, make me whole.
It would have probably been enough but the conversation went on addressing each part of my body, my eyes, nose, ears, and mouth, thanking them for their hard work.
Yes, I am talking to you, my beautiful Thyroid. I undermined how vital you are and the role you play in the function of my body. I am grateful for all the hormones you made, and I get it if you are tired and cannot keep up with the demand. It was my fault for not paying attention to you earlier. I still love you, exactly as you are, whether you are at your full potential or not.
Similarly, I thanked each of my organs — my lungs for cleaning the air I breathe, my heart for circulating blood each minute of the day, my stomach for being so…
