Forget Motivation, Focus on Discipline

One is fleeting; the other builds a lasting habit.

I regularly don’t feel motivated.

I want to stay in bed. I want to watch Netflix. I want to lounge, scroll Instagram, and relax.

And this is from someone with big, exciting goals and dreams!

Motivation is fleeting.

Everyone says “find the motivation” as a solution to creating the life you want — but motivation comes in waves.

One day you have tons of energy, you quickly check off your to-do list, and you feel excited about the future.

The next day everything sucks. You have a headache, you’re exhausted, and your depression is hitting hard.

This is normal.

But after two weeks of trying to reach your goals through motivation only, you’re going to be extremely discouraged by your progress. And likely you’ll give up until the next time you have a week straight of energy — then start the cycle over again.

Instead, focus on discipline.

And motivation will be created by default.

Intentional discipline is the key.

Living with intention is my path to happiness. Is that considered counterculture now?
