Trauma in the Passenger Seat

Banana Pancakes

What’s your road trip song that sets the mood for the whole trip ahead?

The car’s vibration bumps with the bodies rocking to the beats, and laughter explodes at my decision to let loose and express my version of seated dance moves to our favorite, “Banana Pancakes” by Jack Johnson. It was the best way to start our long road to visit family.

We traveled the staff lines of the Coffee House Playlist and 90’s summer road trip collection, recognizing route signs carrying the rhythm of our traffic movements.

The visit moved every emotion on the life spectrum while stacking memories amongst the laughter, new experiences, and carefully touched disagreements. They all weave a family story I cherish with effervescent detail that I hope to always remember.

The journey wrote its own story. The long road home was littered with radio commercials, sarcastic jokes, pitiful expectations I apparently failed at, and long talks with God about giving me only “as much as I can handle.” WTF?! As much, God, as much ALREADY!!!

…So what bridged this trek from elation to bargaining with the Almighty for peace to pick up my feet and take another step?
