Introduction

I had advanced prostate cancer and am currently cancer-free. Since President Biden has the same diagnosis, I thought I’d share my experience.

The biggest difference between us is that I was healthy. The treatment temporarily affects the brain, which might complicate his treatment.

Diagnosis

I was diagnosed in 2015, when I was 70. My PSA was borderline high. I finished my treatment five years later. I am currently cancer-free, knock on wood.

When I was diagnosed, I was terrified. My wife was scared. We thought that prostate cancer was deadly. My doctor reassured me. There are several treatments available.

Treatment I

Treatment started with the surgical removal of my prostate and surrounding tissue. I was now incontinent of urine and impotent — no big deal.

Treatment II
