The European Union is a strange construction. It’s made of 27 different countries, different cultures, different languages, different values, different economies. We certainly do not agree with each other and are notorious for having been at each others throat for centuries, until the last world war when we finally said “never again”.
Something we also said after the first world war by the way, so what do we know.
Politically, nothing could be further more apart than the far right populist Viktor Orban and the left Frans Timmermans, yet both their parties came first during the last European legislative elections.
The European Union is a big market. It has been designed with a millenia old myth in mind, so prevalent in the eighties and the nineties, “bread and games”. A decent purchasing power and enough entertainments as the foundation of ever lasting happiness in our democratic heaven.
China proved us wrong.
Russia proved us wrong.
