It’s all about perceptions…

Sometimes the way out, the way through, is right in front of us, but we can’t see it. It’s all about our perceptions, and something that I’ve come to understand after many years of meditation practice.

We all have different ways of seeing things, and though we strive to see the world clearly, there is always potential for delusion.

And so it was when I tried to escape (really just exit) the condo building I was staying in for the AWP conference in Los Angeles this past week. I felt like I was in an episode of the Twilight Zone.

I attended the conference with a colleague from a prior online writing workshop, and it was our first time together in real life. I picked her up at the convention center, and we made our way to the condo building a mile away and got settled in.

It was a tall, older building with a doorman in downtown L.A. (nice for added safety), and elevators that took us to our third floor unit. So far so good.

We went to an off-site reading sponsored by our workshop (VONA, which stands for Voices of Our Nation, and supports BIPOC writers), and had a delightful evening of readings, food, and connection with fellow writers.
