Your Kids Are Fine, Stop Worrying!
More of a tip for myself than a piece of advice if I’m being honest, but the fact remains, our kids are fine!
We’re a couple of weeks into the new school year and for some parents, it’s their first rodeo.
The summer was spent finishing packets, brushing up on soft skills and managing those oh-so important milestones that magically pop up over summer vacation. For some parents summer is the most stressful time for a number of reasons. One being that we’ve barely been around these little humans for more than 6 consecutive hours at a time all year and now here we are back to the 24 hour benders. How do we know what they like now? How do we know how long their social battery will last with us. How often are they eating these days? Questions that the inquiring mind may fret over continuously until about this time of year. When the back-to-school commercials start and the panic sets in.
The normal frantic takes place alongside set in anxiety and wondering thoughts. I find that as a parent I don’t think these feelings ever subside. From their first day at kindergarten to their last day on a high school campus, a parent's mind is adept to imagine the worst scenario possible and harp on it for an unhealthy amount of time.
