Simply Eloise
Eloise Simpleton can be summed up in one word–simple. As her surname alluded, Eloise was a simple woman by all definitions of the word simple. Whenever she had to paint, she always chose the colour white. She routinely ordered plain and simple coffee, much to the baristas’ chagrin–no bells, no whistles, please
Eloise believed that coffee was meant to be brewed and percolated, not frothed, steamed, or pushed through some fancy machine at high pressures.
She even convinced her husband, Josh, to choose simple names for their two kids, Jane and Billy. Not William, Billy. Josh was known as the town Mr. Fix-it. Eloise would say a dying breed, but his ability to fix any “tinkering thing” made him special in Eloise’s eyes.
One night, as Josh was in the garage tinkering with the old lawn mower that Mr. Green dropped off, Josh overheard the argument between his beloved Eloise and their daughter Jane.
“Mom, it’s bad enough that you have to wear that God-awful dress, but can’t you find a pair of fashionable shoes?”
Josh shook his head. It was baffling to him how two simple people could raise two of the most fashionable and un-simple children.
“Jane, you know I don’t buy into this fashion lifestyle. Clothes are to be worn to cover one’s body, not as an accessory for practicality.”
