Crystal Ball

I am suspended.
Above the universe I dangle,
contemplating my descent.
Strategizing as chaos unfolds below,
And my fear grows.
The hot air keeping me here will run out eventually —
I feel the beeping of its countdown
Vibrating on the inner walls of my skull,
But I cannot see past my reflection
In the glass which holds time
To measure it.
The image of the round world is projected on the ceiling of my enclosure,
All of its vast joys and disasters
Shrunken beyond the point of recognition.
Petrified, I cannot look down, only stare ahead,
Hoping the light will shine from behind me,
Allowing me to look through.
