Can you imagine how World War II Veterans Must Feel Right Now?

In an exquisitely moving scene at the end of “Saving Private Ryan,” Stephen Spielberg’s acclaimed, brutally graphic film about D-Day and its aftermath, the grievously wounded Captain John Miller, whose platoon has been tasked with not only the beach invasion at Normandy, but of bringing home safely a young soldier whose brothers were killed in combat, tells Ryan: “Earn This.” He is talking about the devastation all around him that came from his outgunned and outmanned platoon trying to hold onto a Bridge they had been ordered to defend — and of all the sacrifices — the dead and the dying are all around them.

“Earn this.” Earn this democracy. Earn this freedom. Remember the blood and the treasure that were spilled to rescue the world from fascism.

And Ryan nods gravely, because he understands.

That was the film.

Flash forward to 2025. And we now have a president, vice president and I don’t know what to call Elon Musk except a wanna be James Bond villain or perhaps a replicant from Blade Runner — all openly prostrating themselves before every tyrant in the world and blatantly demanding Germany allow Nazis back into the government.
