Wild animals

We have deer here. Many of them. Too many, in fact, for the ecosystem that supports them. They eat every single unprotected plant. Especially in late winter and spring. Some of them are even white, It’s taboo to kill white deer here in the UK, an old druidic remnant in the minds of country people, the few who remain that is. I see them reasonably frequently I even have a bit of video of some from a distance, not good enough to show.

There are no predators, you see. We killed them all, long ago.

The same goes for the invading American gray squirrel. They’re at a plague stage in our nut groves, they get almost all the nuts. I have plans for them later.

Nature is seriously out of balance here.

The taking of meat from wild animals must be done with great care and great respect. The wild animal populations of the world have been utterly devastated by industrial civilisation and on the whole, shouldn’t be touched, but there are some exceptions.

We take roadkill from time to time, we have a main road on our boundary. There are so many deer that every few months one gets killed on the road and if we spot…
